Catching up with Corgan
The Smashing Pumpkins leader has high hopes for his band’s reunion CD, ‘Zeitgeist,’ due July 10

I caught up with rocker Billy Corgan at the opening night of the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Antiques & Garden Fair on Thursday night, and we chatted about quite the range of topics:
・ Corgan said he’s ”really, really happy” with how the Smashing Pumpkins’ reunion album ”Zeitgeist” turned out, hoping fans will embrace the CD when it’s released July 10. According to Corgan, many of the album’s songs focus heavily on environmental themes.
・ The singer was curious about all the buzz about his ”old friend” Courtney Love’s rapid weight loss the past few months. Yet Corgan did not comment on Love’s denying she underwent gastric banding to drop the pounds.
・ More than music or celeb chatter, Corgan focused Thursday on checking out the many antique dealers’ wares. The rock star was intrigued by two lighthouse lamps in one booth; plus two white leather chairs in Richard Norton’s space — designed by famous architect David Adler for the now-shuttered Attic Club on LaSalle Street. Corgan lives in a classic Adler home on the North Shore.
